😻 7 Signs To Identify Being Catfishing 😻

Catfishing Is Real!

Write By: Rose Joseph (J.J.)

What is being catfished? A lot of the younger individuals know what catfished or catfishing is! However, some still don't know what this entails. When they hear catfished or catfishing they might think of "Fishing!"

I have also been asked multiple questions about the signs of being catfished, or questions about long-distance relationships, and they do not know they are being catfished.  Once you finish reading this article, you will have a better understanding of being catfished, and a few signs to look for so you can identify if someone is trying to catfish you.

Before you proceed any further, have you ever been catfished or do you suspect someone is attempting it now? Let's take a closer look!

"Catfished" is a person who pretends to be someone else online. Catfish can be found on dating apps and social media websites. One of the biggest places you will find this in 2024 is "Whatapp".

They use fake photos and make up fake personas to find friends and/or romantic partners. A better word for these types of individuals is "Liars." They know what to say to make you fall in love with them. They study you when they first start talking to you, so they know what you want to hear and what you're looking for. They prey on your feelings and emotions for one thing only, and that is to use you when they get you "Hooked." The sad thing we see older individuals getting catfished more than younger people.

So, now that you have some understanding of what catfishing is, let's examine some signs that will help us identify when someone is catfishing us or someone we love!

1. "You will meet them online, on some form of social media."

2. They will make excuses as to why you can't meet in person.

3. They won't allow you to call them or Facetime with them over the phone. They will stick to messages/WhatsApp so they have time to think of what to say. As well as, so you don't see them.

4. They will not have many friends or followers on their social media accounts. Their accounts will appear as if they were recently created.

5. Their stories won't align. They will tell you one thing and then contradict themselves shortly after.

6.  They only send professional-looking photos, making it seem like they were taken in advance. They won't send a photo of themselves at the moment.

7. Most of them will use you and start asking for money in the form of gift cards once they think they have you hooked.

If you are dating someone on a dating app or any form of social media and notice any of these "Signs." it's important to investigate. You can perform a "Reverse Lookup" to search for the person behind the photo. Let them know that if they are unable to call you, meet in person, or FaceTime, you will end the relationship. If they are who they claim to be and genuinely care about you, they will comply to pressure you. There is also a show that used to come on MTV called 'Catfish' that you could watch to learn more about what to look for if you think you're being catfished.

I hope this helps anyone that may have questions about the online relationship they are in, or if you are planning on trying some of the dating sites on social media. If you know someone that might be being catfished share this article with them. Good luck in your relationships now and any to come in the future!
